Trying to Teach Deep Thinking in an Age of Violence

Last week I was on lock-down with my Tuesday class at the Community College of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Inquirer asked me to write about my personal account of the experience. Check out how gun fears, social media, SWAT teams and squirrels all collide to keep us on our toes in this fragile age we live in. The text is on the Think Tank Blog at Philly.com and should appear n the print edition of the Inquirer on Sunday.

  1. Fascinating to compare our experiences and responses, Kelly. I’m glad this is going out to a wide audience but still have deep doubts that more security will actually make us safer unless it comes down to body-searches and frisking…and then where are we?
